What is a good substitute for heavy cream in a pasta recipe?

Half and half? What is a good substitute for heavy cream in a pasta recipe?
Half and half is your best choice. its still got some cream base in it to thicken your sauce. If its for Alfredo I would add a bit of Roux to it. If you know how to make the Roux and if not its easy, 1 tablespoon room temp butter and 1 tablespoon flour mixed add to sauce and thicken. Voalia you have a thickend Cream sauce. What is a good substitute for heavy cream in a pasta recipe?
Half and Half will work fine, you can even use milk. If the cream is to thicken up the pasta, you can use other things to thicken it. A little flour, or even some cornstarch/water mixed together will thicken up a sauce.

Enjoy!
I've used half and half many times with no problems. If it's for alfredo, I just toss in a couple extra handfuls of shredded cheese to thicken it up.
condense milk. or try milk in a saucepan till it thickens

cook the half and half till the top layer of cream floats. Scrap and use the cream. throw the milk away
I've used half and half instead and it was fine but maybe a little thinner than it would have been with heavy cream. Tasted good though.
Depends what kind of recipe you have. If it's something like alfredo sauce, I think you could use light cream or half %26amp; half.
You can use light cream or half and half. It won't taste nearly as rich, though.
Lighter dairy products tend to ';break'; when they simmer. The proteins turn into little clumps and separate from the liquid.

Heavy cream is your best choice. You can just use less of it. Try using chicken broth as your main liquid, then stirring in a coupole tablespoons of heavy cream during the last couple minutes of simmmering.
